Thoroughly sweep the repair area. Ray-Tech equipment produces true infrared rays—not just heat—and any dirt, sand, puddles, or standing water will block penetration into the asphalt. A clean surface ensures a successful repair.

• Raise the chamber to a 45º angle.

• Switch Blower #1 on—you’ll hear the motor begin.

• Switch Blower #2 on. When both reach capacity, you’ll hear a faint click from the 24-volt solenoid, signaling the gas-air mixture is feeding into the converters.

• Use your handheld torch to ignite each row of converters.

• Wait 30–45 seconds until the grids glow bright orange. The unit is now ready to use.

Lower the chamber over the work area, keeping it 4–6 inches above the surface. Heating time depends on asphalt age, color, aggregate type, outside temperature, and chamber height. Average heating time is 6–8 minutes for one full layer. (To heat deeper layers, rake off the top layer first.)

After 4–6 minutes, test with the corner of your rake. The asphalt should be soft enough to work.
⚠️ Do not rake large sections until fully heated. Heating must be done on a solid surface; if reheating is necessary, compact first. Avoid scorching (gray discoloration), as it reduces penetration.

Leave the outermost 6 inches of the heated area untouched. This creates a thermal bond between old and new asphalt. If you disturb this edge, the repair may unravel over time.

Once the area is fully heated, carefully move the unit to the next work area. Remember—the chamber remains extremely hot and cools slowly. Use caution.

Before the area cools, press the back of your rake around the trouble spot to “picture frame” it. This outlines the repair zone. Rake the inside of this framed area, but leave the 6” edge untouched for proper bonding.

Most patches require some fresh asphalt. After raking the loosened material, add new mix as needed. Use your lute to smooth the surface. The luted patch should sit ½” to 1” higher than the surrounding area to allow for compaction.

Compaction is the most critical step.

• Start by rolling or compacting a 1” strip around the edges (“pinching” the edge). Skipping this step compromises the repair.

• Gradually compact inward, working edge-to-center in overlapping passes.

• Once compacted, roll again from multiple directions to ensure complete density.

✅ You now have a permanent infrared asphalt repair.

Pro Tip: When transporting the unit after use, close the propane cylinder valves and secure the cylinders safely before moving.
